Tired

Nothing but rain, rain, rain, mud. During the month of May we only had 3 days without rain. June so far hasn’t been much better. The river is swollen and near over flowing and the clay is so saturated it has become a very slick mud, much like walking on ice, except that is sticks to your boot making them heavy.

For all of May Aliy has avoided laying down in the mud. Whenever we could we would give her a dry place and she would instantly lie down and fall asleep. The poor girl isn’t getting enough sleep this way. She is tired very tired. Additionally, we are not sure how or where but, we are guessing due to the slippery mud, Aliy has several scratch marks on her head. Thistle and Archer also have scratch marks but we can’t find where they are coming from.

Since the rain has continued Aliy has given up and has begun laying down in the mud to sleep. Her mane is full of mud balls that hang like large Christmas balls on the various strands. Her tail is no better. Every inch of her is plastered with mud, it is impossible to do much of anything to clean her up.

Today, however, was predicted to be a one day break in the rain. So Aliy got a rinse. I didn’t bother to soap her down since more rain is expected and the corrals are still nearly knee deep with mud. Luckily the back road is mostly sand and rock so it is dry enough to ride on.

As you can see in the photo Aliy looks tired. Even Thistle seems a little tired. Archer is just glad to be out away from the place. Keeley and Cadence are also happy their horses are still avoiding the mud, not rolling or laying down. Staying clean makes them much easier to ride.
