Aliy is Here !!!

Yesterday Aliy was able to move from the breeder’s home to our home. She loaded in the trailer with no trouble and made the 3.5 hour trip to our place. There was a thunderstorm when she arrived so we didn’t get many pictures from yesterday. A benefit of the storm yesterday was big puddles today and Aliy and I took the opportunity to walk through them.

In order to introduce Aliy to Archer and Thistle they have been moved to a temporary location. Each are in separate enclosures with Aliy in the middle and Archer and Thistle on opposite sides. Thistle took an immediate dislike to Aliy while Archer seemed to be a little mommy-ish but that changed after the first 20 minutes. Both Thistle and Archer spent a good part of the afternoon charging the fence anytime Aliy came near. But Aliy’s pretty smart, it didn’t take her long to learn that neither one of them can get through the fence and she has began giving Archer the hip and rear leg. Eventually we expect they will all be fine together, just like Thistle and Archer are now, but for a while at least Aliy will be kept separately but near both the older mares.

A friend of our was out latter the first evening and noted that the three seems ok with each other as longs as neither Keeley, Cadence, nor Robin were around. So we are pretty sure horses can have strong jealousy and we will just have to work them past their issues.
