Registered:

American Morgan Horse Association

The Lippitt Morgan Horse Registry.

Temperament:
Z Halcyon April is perfect with people of all ages. She is confident and steady. She stands tied, loads and trailer's very well, leads well, saddles well, but prefers gradual cinching as opposed to cinch and go. April stands for the farrier and has very solid hooves, solid enough that she hasn't needed shoes here in Colorado, even for trail riding. She is also easy to administer shots to as well as paste wormer, doses given without a halter even.  She lunges and does some Liberty work.  April is a dominate mare, not overly friendly with other horses although she will tolerate companions that know how to keep their distance. The best way to describe her attitude is "If you respect her she is more than willing to respect you." I consider her a very safe mare to be around as well as ride.
For Riding:
Z Halcyon April is a true trail horse. Prior to our ownership, she participated in endurance with her then owner in Montana. She loves the mountains and is very happy just being away from the barn. She will cross creeks and bridges, as well as, rocky and steep terrain. She can travel alone or in a group, but in a group she will insist she be out front. Her walk is quite fast, yet smooth for the rider, although it can be difficult for many other horses to keep up with her pace. Her trail trot is also very fast, buttery smooth, and well balanced.  While she can slow down, being slow isn't her idea of fun which would make her difficult for a non-confident rider. Interesting, she is very patient with beginning riders, although we have not had beginners ride her consistently enough to know if there is an end to her patience. Things she does not tolerate well are, arena riding and tight reins.
As a Broodmare:
April breeds easily, with live cover she has always taken on the first cycle. She has also taken, first try, with frozen semen, however there are a lot of factors involved with AI breeding. She also ultrasounds with no concerns. She has had two beautiful foals for us, the delivers were without help. She is a wonderful mom, although in my opinion she is a little too attentive with her babies and doesn't allow foals to wander and explore like some other mares do. She has no problem sharing her foals with people but will not allow any other horses near a foal for the first month or so. Since she is older we did put her on an oral progestin during the first 60 days of her most recent pregnancy. A very special thing about her, as a mom, is she adores babies and she maintains a reputation for stealing other mare's foals, if she doesn't have one of her own. This is a wonderful trait if you need a nurse mare but can make it difficult to wean foals as she will try to nurse any foal long term, even when she should be dry. Most recently, her 2022 foal was aborted late in the pregnancy, although the vet says it was due to outside circumstance and not related to either her or the pregnancy, we feel that should be mentioned (I am happy to answer any questions if you would like more information). Z Halcyon April is currently being sold open, although we will breed her if she doesn't find the right home before the season ends.
Pedigree:
Z Halcyon April is Full Lippitt. Her sire is Sandrock Joel, her dam is TOV Melody Ashbrooke (by Tradition Derby Day). She has minimal in-breeding leaving her pedigree open to a host of  breeding options. (Her 9 Generation Coefficient of Inbreeding: 3.971% which is very low for a Lippitt)
