The New Saddle

Keeley and Archer have been testing out their new saddle for the last couple of days. Keeley loves it. Archer quite possibly just tolerates it. At least this saddle doesn’t seem to be pinching her shoulders like the first one. The two have done quite a bit of ridding since getting the saddle and we hope they continue. Tomorrow will be some low and slow arena work followed by a slow trail, out past the cattle.

With the better weather we have changed up the horses feeding. Currently, they are on pasture for two hours each morning instead of having any morning hay. We’ve been monitoring each of the horse's weight and Archer was nicely dropping down, even before all the recent riding. Thistle hasn't been as lucky. She has stayed roughly the same weight. Aliy, on the other hand, we have had to increase her feed to keep her from losing weight. All in all, we think the horses are doing pretty good this year.

We are hoping to start getting out to the mountains but trying to get the weather to coincide with Keeley’s schedule hasn’t been very successful. For Keeley’s next day off snow and rain are predicted. We will have to see if the weatherman is right before we can make too many plans.
