Ridding

No one has been able to slow Keeley and Archer down long enough to catch pictures or video of them. Every chance they can the two go ridding, mostly by themselves. When others do try and ride along Archer’s “got-to-be-in-the-lead” streak kicks in and they either leave everyone in their dust or the two have to cover a lot of distance circling back. Keeley is quite proud of the fact that Archer can maintain a walk that is so fast other horses have to trot to keep up.

Archer has been doing wonderful with her driving though we still haven’t gotten a harness. Her “haw” and “gee” etc… are good enough now to hitch her to the cart, except the no harness hinders that idea. Our background is in sled dogs so the verbal cues Archer has learned are not traditional horse lingo but they seem to work just fine. For practice Archer has been dragging a tire around and looking like a tinker’s horse carrying milk jugs filled with rocks, or any other thing we can think of, to simulate the racket a cart will make. Hopefully soon we will have a harness but there are still a few other priorities on the list above a harness.

This photo of Keeley and Archer was taken while they were out ridding. We had to drive out to find them in order to take the photo and still had to use the 30x zoom.
