All Together

Success !! After nearly three weeks Archer and Thistle seems to have accepted Aliy. The three are now sharing a large paddock together. But all is not perfect; we will have to carefully monitor hay consumption. Aliy, being young, eats the slowest of the three while Thistle can eat a ton of hay in record time. Happily, Thistle and Archer allow Aliy to share from their feeding troughs without any threatening mareish behaviors.

Archer accepted Aliy the quickest, probably because she is boss mare and has nothing to fear from a young filly. Thistle on the other hand, undeniably, has age and strength on her side but she is becoming less interested in confrontation, an attitude Aliy has began seeking to exploit. Aliy isn’t afraid to present her hindquarters to other horses in order to defend her “rights”, to all except Archer that is. In the end Thistle chooses to ignore Aliy’s flamboyant efforts which Aliy mistakenly believes is victory.
