Hooves & Saddles

Keeley hopes to compete in endurance next year with Archer. As part of their conditioning Keeley and Archer currently ride only at a walk to give Archer time to adjust from having had shoes to now being barefoot. They are in Week 9 of 12 weeks only walking. Archer hooves are doing fantastic according to JC. Archer’s hooves weren’t bad when she came but going barefoot is something new. Our farrier JC has come out each week to help tweak the process to ensure a balanced sole and hoof wall, the rasp hardly makes any marks on the Morgan hoof. However, Archer’s sole is still a bit soft so walking restrictions still apply.

Keeley barrowed a saddle to use with Archer but that saddle is too small in the withers for Archer. So Keeley and Archer are planning a shopping trip at the end of the month. Keeley hasn’t decided what type of saddle she wants and she is probably looking at buying a temporary saddle until she can buy one of the more expensive endurance type saddles later on. For now she is ridding bareback.
