Extra! Extra!

Today was a fantastic day! The weather was chilly but the sun was predicted to shine and warm things up a bit.

We trailered Archer to a saddle shop and fitted her for a western saddle. The saddle isn’t new but it was what Keeley was looking for. Keeley and Archer did lots of ridding once we got back home. It was nice to see them out again. Keeley just wasn’t happy with the first saddle and said she was constantly feeling as if she was falling forward. Today’s ridding in the new saddle looked the best I have ever seen between Keeley and Archer.

Now the Big News!!

Out of the blue we received some possible information about Thistle’s past and if we are able to verify the information Thistle may be a registered Appaloosa. A year ago we had heard rumor of registration papers for her but we never thought much about it, figuring the papers were long gone. We still don’t much but for now it fun just knowing a bit more about her. Being Appaloosa might explain some of Thistle’s initial bad behaviors in addition to the strength of the bond she and Cadence now have.

(Photo) For the fun of it Cadence taught Thistle to stick out her tongue on cue.

Aliy is growing and doing great in her training. She has totally figured out the vocal cues for move toward me and move away from me. She performs best with the turn-on- front but can also sidepass in both directions. However, the turn-on-haunches she still gets a bit confused trying to figure out which hoof to move first. She will get it, I have no doubt, but in the meantime it is fun to watch her process through the information looking for the right answer.

Update:

The possible lead on a registration number didn’t pan out. Not sure if we will keep looking since there are a few different possible registry’s for Appaloosas. We checked with what we believed to be the largest Appaloosa registry but the number we were given didn’t match horses in their database.
